Sedona, Arizona
Thursday, August 21st, 2008Today I caught up on rest and established a game plan for the next few days. I also had a chance to ride down to Sedona and catch the sunset. It was one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen. I wish the pictures did it justice!
Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
In him was life, and that life was the light of men.
John 1:3-4
Flagstaff, Arizona
Thursday, August 21st, 2008Got into Flagstaff early this morning. Was in Grand Canyon yesterday and had my first break-down right as I came upon the Southern Rim. I went to go take in the view (which was awesome).. but when I came back my bike wouldn’t start. I spent the next hour or two systematically checking the electrical system on my bike. It was pretty bad… had my bags all opened up.. bike partly disassembled… a nice big yard sale in the viewing point parking lot. The sun had just set… and things were looking grim. I decided to pray (why hadn’t I thought of that before?) and reluctantly started packing things back up. My plan at this point was to push my bike to a campground and work on it in the morning.
At just that moment.. a couple approached me and asked if they could help. It was odd, because nobody has asked me up to that point.. and by this time it looked like I had things together. They spoke only broken english… the wife translating for the husband. To make a long story short.. by the grace of God and a mechanically savvy Hungarian man named Alex… my bike roared to life!
It was one of those moments that just puts you in awe of God’s providence. I thanked the Hungarian couple profusely.. exchanged emails.. and headed off to the campsite. I stumbled to set up my tent in the dark.. and found some light to read a Psalm before bed. The one I came across sums it all up..
Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.
Worship the LORD with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.
Know that the LORD is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his ;
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the LORD is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations.
Psalm 100
Here’s a few pictures from the last two days.
