The Rhino Fund

Sunday, September 7th, 2008

The Rhino Fund is an attempt to raise $2000 for Kenyan children through the organizations of ANPPCAN and Huruma Children’s Home.  I had initially planned to just send money over to support some of their various programs.  After discussing with Dr. Onyango (ANPPCAN) and Mama Zipporah (Huruma) though, we decided this would not be the most fruitful way to invest this fund.

One of the goals of The World Awaits is to partner and empower as opposed to just sending money.  Therefore, the money raised through the Rhino Fund will go towards sending the first team of volunteers to Kenya.  This team will work directly with ANPPCAN and Huruma to help meet their needs and achieve some of their long-term goals.  If you think you might be interested in joining this team, please click here.

The window of opportunity to raise these funds is quickly closing.  We have until September 15th 2008 to raise the remaining $1370!  If you would like to support this fund, please make a pledge!  I’m confident that it will contribute to changed lives.  Not only to the children involved, but to the volunteers as well.

The World Awaits.. almost there!

Saturday, September 6th, 2008

As I jumped into this adventure to raise $1000 for The World Awaits, I wasn’t quite sure what I was getting myself into.  When I left Los Angeles three weeks ago, the concept of The World Awaits was still just an idea and a dream.  This journey has really shaped that dream into something real and tangible.  I have much more clarity about the goals and values of this non-profit, and also what our non-negotiables are:

  • To continuously find avenues to love and serve others, both locally and overseas.
  • To create opportunities for people to serve according to their strengths and passions.
  • To always strive to empower and partner, rather than sending money or giving hand-outs.
  • To be organic and flexible in order to grow and thrive in a constantly changing world.
  • To always seek out what the world is awaiting.. and adapting to meet those needs.

This is the vision I hope to see flourish over the next several months.  The goal to raise $1000 by September 15th, 2008 is still very much attainable.  According to Fundable, there have been $520 in pledges so far.  To finish we need $480.  OR 48 pledges of $10.00… OR 24 pledges of $20… OR $12 pledges of $40.  I really do believe this possible.

If you also believe it’s possible and would like to help get it started, please make a pledge!  Your time and consideration is deeply appreciated.  Thank you!

An adventure with a purpose

The adventure

Riding a motorcycle from Los Angeles to Toronto over the period of one month.  This is my first motorcycle and it’s almost thirty years old.  I have taken an introductory motorcycle mechanics class, but am mostly relying on faith.  I hope to raise money at churches and other locations along the way.

The purpose

  • To raise funds for children in Kenya through Huruma and ANPPCAN
  • To raise funds for The World Awaits (a non-profit I wish to start upon arriving in Toronto)
  • To raise awareness and make connections throughout North America

Moving forward

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

I’m set to depart in under 48 hours, and I’m feeling pretty overwhelmed. There’s so much running through my head right now. I’ve never done anything like this before… which makes it both daunting and incredibly exciting. This is essentially just a ‘crazy idea’ that I’ve decided to move on… so I’ll be figuring it out as I go along. I don’t know how it’s going to work… or if it’s even GOING to work.. but it feels like what I’m supposed to do at this point in my life. I need to move forward.
